Artists' Background

Tina Weston first became interested in photography at age 11, when her parents, Ted and Dorothy, taught her how to work with a Yashica camera. Tina and all of her brothers (Ted, Scott and Jason) inherited this love of photography, and pursue the art in one way or another. Tina is a fourth generation photographer and the great-grandaughter of Edward Weston. She often says that she feels like she was "born with a camera in her hand." This sentiment is echoed by her niece, Tessa. Tina's daughter Kate, and son Robert are also quite handy with the camera.

Tina's work was first published in her high school year book in the mid-1970's. For many years after high school, Tina focused on shooting friends' weddings, but in the last several years she has concentrated on capturing nature in all its glory. She has an uncanny sense of timing and composition, and the ability to see things just a little bit differently from the norm. Her unique perspective inspired shots like the "Oak Tree" on Mt Diablo, which is a bold black and white photograph that looks like a snow scene but was actually taken on a blazing hot October day. Her sense of timing has yielded shots like her magnificent "Wave", which was actually the first photograph she took at a beach-side wedding in 1996.
